Peacocks And Paisleys create home goods that let you escape the day to day and connect with the world around you. They collaborate with Indian artisans to make products that get your creativity flowing and inspire you to design a living space that is artful, artisan made and bohemian eclectic. I just love their approach, their ethics and their products.
Each inch of the fabric is printed by carved wooden blocks – a slow process, but a labour of love well worth it.
Priya is the person behind today’s gorgeous business, Peacocks And Paisleys. She believes that the most beautiful homes are a reflection of the owners personality. She also believes in “meaningful beauty “ which means that it touches a chord, perhaps a purpose or a belief . To this end she designs artful textiles inspired from her travels and heritage and works with artisans in India to hand print and make them into beautiful Bohemian Homewares products.
I had a chat with Priya about her business, her passions and her story and she has generously donated a prize for a giveaway today!

Can you tell us how you started your business and what inspired you?
After I had my son I was itching to do something that would make a difference. When I created Peacocks and Paisleys, I wanted to bring my love of far off places and exotic cultures to the Australian market through everyday home items, which can enhance the mood and home ambience, bring a sense of serenity, and help connect people to their surroundings. I wanted to inspire my customers to travel, to follow their bohemian hearts, and to use their homes as sanctuaries to escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.
What kinds of things can people find in your shop?
Beautiful things for the home and table – tablecloths, table runners, napkins, kantha quilts, indian quilts, pillowcases, quilt covers, cushions and more. People can find us at www.peacocksandpaisleys.com.au
What inspires you about these crafts? And what made you choose these crafts to have in your business?
Being born and brought up in India I was always surrounded by them. I am passionate about both- traditional crafts like hand block printing, as well as the artisans who make them. It is a sustainable practice which is both beautiful and ethical.
What do you love about this kind of work and do you have a favourite piece to work on?
I love the story behind the craft, it is hundreds of years old. I love the place, the quaint workshops, the human hands that make them and the imperfections it leaves. The artisans I work with are the happiest and most satisfied people I know – they have less of everything and make the most of it …..I find that so inspiring !! It is hard to pick one but I do get really excited with our quilts – softest cottons, fluffy and enough to cushion from anything even a bad day
Do you prefer neutrals or colour? And what is your decorating style?
Colour all the way for me – bright and happy My decorating style is “eclectic french bohemian meets global sustainable free spirit.”
What do you think decorative pieces like yours bring to a contemporary home?
Our products are a way to connect with the world around you and escape the day to day. They are for someone who appreciates artful designs and cares about how they are made. They instantly make a space cheerful and add character to it. While the color palette is modern, the inspirations for the design are ancient vintage fabrics dating back as early as the seventeenth century.
Can you tell us your thoughts on sustainable decorating?
Sustainable decorating to me is decorating that is ethical, it needs to be done with the greater good in mind. Not only is it eco-friendly, it also adds character to a space that reflects the people who inhabit the home.
